Taman Ayun which translates into Garden Temple in the Water, is set on the land that is surrounded by a big fish pond and looks like a drift on the water. Built with a very sophisticated architectural design, the temple’s major highlight are the towering tiers from the temple shrines that are a gesture of mark of respect from the people of Mengwi for their deified noble ancestors, as the temple complex is considered to be the royal family temple of Mengwi.

Tegenungan Waterfalls

After a tour of the royal temple, head next to Tegenungan waterfalls, a waterfall not very far from Ubud – just about 30 mins drive, that houses a plethora of photo-ops that offer a good and unobstructed view of the falls, and indeed guarantees you of a pleasant time. On a hot day, a bath in these cold natural waters will be just the much needed respite. Take a swing ride here and capture in your lens some amazing frame-worthy shots with the waterfalls as the backdrop.

Goa Gajah

After a tranquil experience with the mother nature, drive to Goa Gajah aka Elephant cave, as it is locally known. A very small sacred Hindu site with a menacing entrance of a demonic mouth, it gives you the feeling of venturing into an underworld of darkness. As you venture in, on the left passage you will find a small deity of Lord Ganesh, representative of Elephant and on the right passage you will find several stone lingams in the honour of Lord Shiva. Do your prayers and take a walk around the temple complex. Now, break for lunch at one of the restaurants just outside the Elephant cave.

Lush gardens surround the palace enhancing the beauty of the palace and giving it a serene feeling. Ubud Palace is also a cultural repository as a number of international events on art, music and literature are held here.

Kecak Fire Dance

After filling up your shopping bags, head next to Pura Puseh to witness the traditional hypnotic dance of Kecak. Performed by a group of bare chested Indonesian men swaying to the rhythm of kechak chak chak kechak, depicting the story of Ramayana in the most dramatic way is in short the Kecak fire dance. One demon king, two young princes, a damsel in distress and a mischievous monkey all play parts and unfold an interesting spectacle before the viewers. The kidnap of Sita by Ravana and finally her reunion with Ram, enacted with just the right set of expressions is a riveting performance that is a must watch. For history lovers, this would be a visual delight so as to watch the history come alive.

After a gripping performance, stop by any restaurant in the Ubud market for dinner or head to your hotel and order on grab. While you await your food, enjoy a good swim, and relax yourself. Enjoy your dinner and hit the sack.

From the rice terraces, head next to the temple of Tirta Empul. Pura Tirta Empul or the Holy Water Temple, a very famous temple is Bali known for its sacred springs that are said to have been created by Lord Indra and known to hold healing properties. People from all over the world come to bathe in its holy waters and perform a purification ritual known as ‘melukat’. The ritual is performed by standing under the water spouts and taking a holy bath. The purification process involves getting cleansed under each water sprout, there are 13 of them, and hence after purification from one water sprout, you have to join the queue on the next water sprout. The last two water sprouts are for the cleansing of the death, and hence the ritual of holy dip & bath has to be performed under 11 water sprouts.

If you are in Bali and have not tasted Bali special Luwak coffee? Trust me, you haven’t done enough! Considered to be the World’s most expensive coffee, it is made from poop of a catlike creature called civet, who is fed with coffee beans that are partially digested and then pooped out. You will find a number of centres near Tirta Empul Temple for Luwak coffee tasting. While you do taste the Luwak coffee, at these centres you can also find a variety of teas available for tasting. Day 3

Sanur Port

After enjoying a nice floating breakfast at your villa, check out from your villa at 12PM and book a Grab to Sanur. Get your Angel billabong pass from the Angel Billabong booth and board the ferry to Nusa Penida. It takes 1 hour to get there. Board the taxi waiting for you arranged by your Nusa Penida hotel and complete the check-in formalities.

Sanur Beach

Crystal Bay

When you reach Nusa Penida, you will hear loads about the perfect sunset at Crystal Bay. So, rent a moped and get in time to witness the spectacular beauty of Crystal Bay sunset. Grab a beer, book your spot and watch the beautiful sun as it goes down. I kid not as I say, it was one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful sunset I’ve witnessed in my entire life. If you can get to the beach earlier, then you can also do some snorkelling or enjoy a swim, as the conditions are very relaxing.

Sunset at Cyrstal Bay

Nusa Penida gets very dangerous at night, majorly because of lack of good roads. So after witnessing a gorgeous sunset, get back to your hotel and order dinner. Enjoy a swim in the pool after dinner if you like and then call it a day. Get good rest for the next morning as you have to rise early for sunrise.

Day 4

Kelingking T-Rex & Beach

Wake up to an early alarm at 5:30am and head to the beauty of Kelingking. One of the most iconic viewpoints on the island, Kelingking in English translates into pinkie, a term used to refer to the smallest finger on the hand. The T-Rex shape cliff at Kelingking, that is enveloped by turquoise waters and powder white sand beach will render you speechless. It is one of the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring views that Bali offers. You will find pictures of Kelingking all over the internet so as to promote tourism to Bali and also to the Nusa islands.

Now, getting to the beach, mind you, is not an easy trek. The safety relies only on a bamboo railing and in some areas, there is no rail whatsoever making it very risky and dangerous. Take good precautions if you are planning to visit the beach. And forget not, good trek shoes are a must!

Kelingking T-Rex

Angel Billabong

From Kelingking, drive next to Angel Billabong, Nusa Penida’s yet another wonder. A majestic place that is marvel-worthy, Angel Billabong is a spectacular tide pool with emerald tones and crystalline waters that cascades into the ocean giving it a stunning look. You can enjoy a swim here, but check for the time when there is going to be low tide in Magic Seaweed before you head out for a swim, as the waters here are a bit rough.

Angel Billabong Nusa Penida

Broken Beach

A few minutes walk from Angel Billabong ismMy most favourite spot in all of Nusa Penida, words literally fall short in describing the beauty of this place. Broken beach, as the name goes, gets its name from a hill rock arch that wraps around the bay allowing waves to crash in and out from the ocean creating a spectacle that is absolutely breathtaking. If you are lucky, you can also spot silhouettes of Manta Rays in its crystal clear deep blue waters. Savour panoramic views, click umpteen pictures with this backdrop and feed them to your Instagram handle and watch as you turn into the next Instagram star.

Broken Beach Nusa Penida

After exploring Broken beach, head back to your hotel and get some rest. After lunch at your hotel, head to the next remarkable destination of Atuh Beach.

Another spot to take several pictures and feed to your Instagram handle and spike up the likes.

Atuh Beach Nusa Penida

Thousand Islands Viewpoint

Not very far from Atuh Beach, the Thousand Islands viewpoint located in the east coast of Nusa Penida island is pretty as a picture and also the next attraction in the day to explore. Nusa Penida Tree house or famously known as Rumah Pohon, perched high on a tree, is the best place to go, to take in the most amazing views of Thousand Islands and also Nusa Penida’s clear blue waters and epic rock formations.

Kuta Beach

Ku De Ta

After Ku De Ta, the next on the list for club hopping is Woo bar. Drive away yourself next to Woo bar.

Woo bar

Drag show at Bali Joe/Mix Well

Ubud is about tradition and culture preservation and Seminyak is about partying and letting loose. A gay bar with drag shows starting at 10 pm and that go on till 4 in the morning, with drag queens lip synching to famous songs, is an absolute fun experience. Grab your favourite cocktail and dance the night away. After a fun night, head back to your villa.

Padang Padang Beach

The beach that rose to fame for its feature in Julia Roberts’ Eat, Pray, Love, is a quiet beach with clear waters at noon. Padang Padang Beach

After a relaxing time at the beach, head next to one of Bali’s most iconic temple of Uluwatu.

Uluwatu Temple

One of Bali’s 6 royal temples perched on top of a cliff about 70 meters from the waves, the Uluwatu Temple is one of the best places to savour Bali’s breathtaking sunsets. Ulu means ‘top‘ and watu means ‘stone‘, hence explains the temple’s high setting on the edge of a cliff overlooking the great Indian Ocean. A temple that is believed to date back to the 10th century, the Uluwatu Temple is surrounded by concrete walls on the cliff side to pause and overlook the stunning beauty of the ocean and relish the views of water surging up against rocks and the ocean horizon. If you are visiting Uluwatu around sunset, don’t miss the amazing Kecak performance with a stunning sunset as the backdrop.

Uluwatu Temple

After a long day driving away in the hot sun and exploring places, everyone deserves a place to just relax and reboot. Potato Head Beach Club is just that right place!

Potato Head Beach Club

Every person who visits Bali, by default also visits Potato Head Beach Club, for why not it has an ambience worth dying for. This place is ridiculously amazing. We got here by 7 in the evening, but get here by noon so that you can get a table and also make for a good evening watching a picture-perfect sunset. The vibe of the place is great and it is definitely worth the hype. Food and cocktails are excellent as well as out of the box. Overall, if i can say, it is the most decked up place you will find in the whole of Seminyak. Head back to your villa after a good time partying.

Day 7

With an afternoon flight back to India, our 7 days Bali honeymoon itinerary was coming to an end. But we still had the morning to our hand. So we set out for Tanah Lot early in the morning.
